Glasgow

Glasgow is the largest city, and has the third largest population in Scotland. The city lies on the banks of River Clyde and in Gaelic the name Glasgow meant green place. In the tenth century the city's importance grew, and became a significant educational and religious center.

The heart of the city is the George square, near you can find the theatre district, the large shopping street, the medieval prison, and the court.

Plenty of cultural buildings can be found in the theatre district, such as the Theatre Royal, the Pavilion, the Royal Concert Hall, the Museum of Modern Arts, the library, the Museum of Fine Arts, Universities and many more. In the eastern part of Glasgow lies the Merchant city, where the Glasgow Cathedral, the markets the building of trades and the city hall are located.

If you would like to see the bohemian side of the city, then visit the West end! It is full of pubs, cafés, night clubs and restaurants. Here takes place the most significant street festival in Glasgow, the West End Festival in every June.

Glasgow also has the East end, which is quieter, and more peaceful. Here you can find baths and sports grounds. The South side used to be the industrial part, but now it serves as a residential quarter. North Glasgow is the most humble part of the city, and also it is the less improved area.
