What should we do if we have problems with our rented car? Accident, theft
You might realize that you car was stolen. It is possible that you accidentally damage the hired car. Not to mention road accidents.
Don’t panic, accidents unfortunately happen.
The procedures are technically the same, as if you used your own car. If you realize that someone stole your vehicle, or you had an accident, you have to call the police immediately and they will examine the circumstances. You receive a form with the car exactly for such purposes, which you have to fill out. You’ll get an official document from the police officer describing the case.
You have to call the car rental company as well, and tell them about the case. Then, you must inform the insurer about the caused damage. All further administration takes place between the insurer and the car rental company.
If the accident happens outside the city, or somewhere where it’s troublesome to get home, you might inquire if they can provide another vehicle. Some companies provide the extra car without extra charges, while some companies might charge you for hiring another car. In most of the cases, if you cause an accident, or damage the vehicle you won’t get free extra car. Moreover, you are obliged to pay a certain percentage (usually 10%) of the damage you caused.
